Postdoctoral Mentorship Award

2024 Postdoctoral Mentorship Award

Postdoctoral scientists and research associates are invited to submit a small grant application as part of a new scheme to fund summer placements at CRUK Cambridge centre. The placement scheme aims attract undergraduates from less research intense universities interested in gaining experience in cancer research. A postdoctoral scientist or research associate at the centre can apply for a small grant to cover the stipend, travel and consumables to host a student on such placement. The postdoctoral research scientist commits to supervise the student during the maximum 8 weeks placement.

The grant will cover: the student's stipend (8 weeks at £380/week), travel cost (up to £250) and lab consumables (£500). The predicted full value of the award is £3790.

The funding applications will be reviewed by the training management committee of the CRUK Cambridge centre and once approved publizised to the student applicants. An awardee must ensure the student is given access to the host institution and safety induction.

The undergraduate students apply separately to the Summer placement and the process of shortlisting and interviewing the applicants will be carried out by postdocs, who have submitted approved projects, as part of CRUK Cambridge centre's career development for the participating postdocs.

For summer 2024, 4 awards will be funded.
