Professor Margaret Ashcroft is pleased to consider applications from prospective PhD students.
Our research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating the cellular response to low oxygen (hypoxia). Hypoxia is a key feature associated with the pathology of many diseases, including cancer.
The main goals of the Ashcroft laboratory are to:
1) Evaluate known and novel molecular mechanisms of hypoxia signalling with particular focus on the regulation of hypoxia inducible factors (HIFs).
2) Investigate the key cellular mechanisms underlying oxygen-sensing and hypoxia responses using model systems and elucidate how these are mechanistically linked to disease.
3) Identify and develop therapeutic strategies to exploit hypoxia (HIF) biology in cancer, and other diseases.
